Terry High School Students Win CTE Awards Construction Contest

On a stage filled with educators, industry partners, and student leaders from across the Houston region, Lamar CISD students stepped forward with confidence—earning recognition and demonstrating how classroom learning translates into real-world skills.

Hosted at the Texas State Technical College (TSTC) Fort Bend County campus, the Houston Region Career and Technical Education (CTE) Awards Ceremony brought together students, educators, school leaders, and industry partners from across the region. Produced by We Go Public and the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) and presented by Stantec, the event highlighted how hands-on learning and industry-aligned instruction prepare students for future success.

For Lamar CISD students, the recognition represented more than an award: it affirmed the purpose behind the district’s Career and Technical Education programs and the impact of real-world learning experiences.

Terry High School student Brody Dang and his teammates earned top honors and a $1,500 scholarship. Representing Lamar CISD under the guidance of Terry High School teacher Michael Harmon, the team stood out for their technical expertise, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving skills, rising above schools from across the Houston region.

That success reflects the learning environment students experience every day in Lamar CISD. Inside Lamar CISD classrooms and labs, learning is built around real-world application. Students think critically, collaborate, and solve complex problems through hands-on projects that mirror professional environments—preparing them to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom and into future careers.

Through industry-aligned programs of study, students can earn college credit, industry-recognized certifications, and meaningful experience in high-demand fields.

Students from school districts across the Houston area were also recognized during the ceremony, underscoring the growing importance of CTE programs in developing a skilled workforce.

For Lamar CISD students, events like the CTE Awards Ceremony are more than celebrations. They are opportunities to share their work, connect with industry professionals, and see firsthand how their skills translate into future careers. These experiences help students envision themselves in the workforce, confident in their abilities, and prepared for what comes next.
