Dear Campbell Families,
What a fun-filled week at Campbell! From student leadership to inflatable races and live performances, there was plenty to celebrate.
We kicked things off with our very own “Super Tuesday” as students voted for their House Council representatives. We were excited to announce our newly elected representatives Wednesday morning! We are incredibly proud of all of our candidates who stepped forward to lead. They worked hard on their campaigns, shared their ideas, and demonstrated the confidence and courage it takes to put yourself out there. We can't wait to see our new representatives join our Heads of House in helping lead our student body this year!
Thursday may have been a half day, but we certainly packed in the fun! Thanks to the incredible support of our Campbell community, we raised more than $20,000 through our PTO Raise Craze fundraiser, which meant it was time for our staff to make good on our promise. Our staff inflatable races were definitely a highlight! There was lots of cheering, laughter, and House pride as our Cougars watched their teachers and staff race for the win.
Our Kindergarten through 3rd grade students also enjoyed a live performance from Books Alive!, making an already exciting morning even more special.
Thank you to our families and PTO for continuing to support the experiences that make Campbell such a special place for our students. We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and those somewhat cooler mornings! 🍂 Fingers crossed that they are a preview of more fall weather to come! We are so proud of the start our Cougars have made and are excited to keep the momentum going.

Parents and Guardians,
There have been several changes to UIL at the district level for this school year. UIL competitions will continue to be available for students in grades 2-5; however, the district will return to a district-wide competition format, which will be held at Tomas High School in Richmond. Due to the size of this event, the district has established several requirements that differ from previous years. We want to ensure families are aware of these expectations before the competition on Saturday, December 5. This year: - Students will not be permitted to travel directly to the competition site with their parents.
- All participating students must ride the bus from Campbell to Tomas High School.
- Parents and guardians will not attend the competition.
- Students may not be checked out after their individual events are completed.
- All participants must remain at the competition for the entire day and return to Campbell on the bus.
Competitions are expected to conclude by approximately 1:45 p.m., and the return trip to Campbell will take about 30-45 minutes. We understand that these changes may create challenges for some families. As we consider whether Campbell should participate in UIL this year, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. Please review these guidelines and share your yes or no in the form attached so that campus leadership can make the best decision based on the needs of our students and families. The form will close on 9/29 at 3:30 PM.

You are your child's first and most important teacher. We want to be a team in helping your child grow and reach their potential. Just by asking questions about your child's day (The initial answer to "What did you do at school?" is usually, "Nothing." Keep digging and ask specific questions. I promise, they never did "nothing!") and giving them a chance to talk about what they are learning, you are solidifying the connections in their brain.
The biggest thing we ask is that you take the time to READ WITH YOUR CHILD EVERY DAY! Kids never outgrow enjoying being read to. Bedtime stories and sharing your favorite stories/books teaches children to associate reading with love and comfort. |

Our doors open at 6:45 am The tardy bell rings at 7:15 am Students are dismissed at 2:40 pm
Our car line can get backed up beginning around 7:05/7:10. Please plan to be in line by 7:00 to ensure your child has adequate time get to class and get settled before the bell rings.
We ask that you do your best to avoid picking students up early. We are teaching from 7:15-2:40. If you must pick up your child for a necessary appointment, please do so BEFORE 2:00 pm. |
Any student arriving on campus after the 7:15 AM bell must enter through the front office and receive a tardy slip before going to class.
Students are released to classrooms at 7:00 AM to begin unplacking and getting settled in for the day. Announcements & instruction begin promptly at 7:15. Please aim for having students arrive closer to 7:00 than 7:15. Being in a rush first thing in the morning can make students feel off balance and make for a rough start to the day. If you are in our car line by 7:00, you should never have an issue with tardies! |
Please do your best to keep your child's transportation plan as consistent as possible. In the event that you need to change how your child goes home, you must call the front office at 832-223-1300 NO LATER THAN 2:00 pm. If you do not get an answer, please leave a message. Our front office staff ALWAYS checks messages right at 2:00 pm before delivering transportation changes to the classrooms.
Please do not send transportation changes through your classroom teacher. They are occupied with students all day and may miss your message. |
- Walkers/bikers are released first so that they can be safely escorted off campus before buses and cars begin moving.
- If your are meeting your child for walker/biker, please wait ACROSS the street from the school! For safety, we ask that parents wait for their walkers/bikers at one of the 3 intersections across the street from Campbell @ Shadow Bend & Winding Brook or on the other side of the staff parking lot behind the school. Teachers will escort students to the crosswalk, and Mrs. Walker will safely cross them to you. We need all walkers/bikers and their parents off campus before the buses and cars start moving.
- Students in grades 1-5 who are designated as walkers will be escorted across the street by staff and are expected to walk home independently once they have crossed safely. Staff supervision ends after students have crossed the street and staff return to campus. Parents are responsible for ensuring their child has a plan for arrival home and understand that students in grades 1-5 will not be returned to campus if a parent or guardian is not present. Kindergarten students who do not have an adult available at dismissal will be returned to campus. Families who are not comfortable with their child walking home independently should select an alternative dismissal method, such as the car rider line.
- Kinder students: A teacher will escort our kinder students out and across the street. students will be released to parents who present a card. Cards can be provided to older siblings if parents are comfortable with them walking home alone. If no one is there to collect your child or you do not have your card, we will return the student to the front office, where they can be picked up by anyone with a valid ID who is on their pickup list. We understand that this may cause slight inconvenience at times, but student safety is our highest priority, and we want to make certain our youngest Cougars get home safely every day.

- Our doors open at 6:45 am. Students MAY NOT be left unattended on the porch before this time. There is no adult on duty to supervise students until 6:45 am.
- Please do not park along the street on Shadow Bend or Winding Brook adjacent to the school. This causes traffic to back up and can become a dangerous situation for our walkers and bikers.
- Please follow all traffic laws. No u-turns are allowed on any street surrounding Campbell. We often see parents doing u-turns in the middle of the street on Winding Brook West by the bike racks to avoid the car pool line on Shadow Bend. This poses a safety risk for our walker/biker students as well as other drivers. If your child is not a walker/biker, you must use the car line.
- It is absolutely critical that the front circle driveway is not obstructed for moving traffic. The line starts at the sign by the light pole for those of you who get in line early.
- Our safety patrol students are dropped off just before 6:45, and we need to keep the area near the doors clear for those drop-offs. These cars will pull around the line to drop off at the doors. Please remain parked at the sign until waved forward by staff or safety patrol.
- Please make sure to pull all the way forward to the first cone for your child to exit your vehicle! Our safety patrol students have bright vests on and are eager to help your child! Stopping early causes backups and slows down the line.

- To ensure safety, each driver MUST have a campus-issued car rider tag in the window to pick up students. If they do not, we will ask them to pull forward and show their ID so we can verify that the driver is authorized to pick up the student. We know that our car rider callers know many of your faces, but to ensure safety in the event of a substitute caller, we need to strictly enforce this policy. If you do not have a car rider tag, the caller will ask for your ID and call it into the front office to verify. We ask you to continue through the line and park in one of the visitor spaces. Once verified, a staff member will bring your child to your car. Replacement or additional car tags are available in the front office.

- In the spring, PTO sponsors an auction where parents can bid on being at the front of the car line. They will pull around the line and pull up to the cones early. Please remain parked behind the sign at the light pole until the teachers begin waving traffic forward.

As we roll out the new Ron Clark house system, we are also rolling out the RCA Housepoints app that was generously provided to us by PTO!
The RCA app also tracks behavior and will be replacing our cougar daily folders for behavior infractions. You will now receive notice in the RCA app if your child has a behavior infraction for the day. The app will notify you privately. No points are removed for the infraction, but these will count in your child's social skills on report card.
All students have access to the RCA Housepoints app through ClassLink. We're asking all of you to join the app as well. It can be downloaded from your favorite app store, and you should have received a letter with your child's unique access code, which will allow you to register as a guardian and set up notifications to see when your child earns points and infractions. Please reach out if you need support getting started! |
As a parent, I know how difficult it can be to entrust your precious children with others. Please know that we take that responsibility seriously and have plans in place to be prepared in the event of an emergency. You will ALWAYS receive communication via Parent Square of any disruption to our normal operating procedures.
HOLD - Clear the hallways. All students and staff remain in their current location. Teaching and learning continues as normal. Holds may be called for a multitude of reasons when we need the hallways to be clear. Some examples are: - To move heavy equipment for maintenance or event setup
- To handle a medical concern of a child or adult and allow medical personnel to move through the building without obstruction and provide privacy for the sick or injured person
- To handle a public discipline or student dysregulation moment and allow privacy and dignity for an upset student

SECURE - Return from outside. All students and staff must remain inside the building. Teaching and learning continues as normal. A secure is called when there is something going on outside of the campus that poses a risk. Some examples are: - An animal in one of the outside learning spaces/playground area
- Maintenance or construction occurring in one of our outdoor spaces
- Police or other emergency action nearby in the neighborhood

EVACUATION - Evacuate the building. All students and staff must exit the building. Teaching and learning is paused. A secure is called when there is something going on inside of the campus that poses a risk. Some examples are: - Fire
- Chemical spill
- Gas leak

SHELTER - Response depends on the issue. All students and staff follow administrators' instructions. Teaching and learning is paused. A shelter is called when there is a dangerous weather condition or hazardous material situation that requires us to seek shelter. Some examples are: - Tornado warnings
- Hazmat situations inside or outside of the building

LOCKDOWN - Locks, Lights, Out of Sight. All students and staff remain behind locked doors, lights are turned off, and students are moved to a location in the room not visible from the door. Teaching and learning is paused. A lockdown is called when there is a threat inside the building. Although this situation has never happened at Campbell, we do practice with the students.
We know this is a scary one. Rest assured that our classroom doors are already locked at all times, so no time is wasted during a lockdown to secure the classrooms. We explain to students that if they are out in the hallways at the restroom or for some other task when a lockdown in called, they are to run to the nearest classroom. Teachers do a brief sweep of the hallway as they close their door to ensure that children in the hallways are gathered safely into a room and accounted for. |
Our emergency response system allows for teachers to account for themselves and students silently on a mobile app, so within a very short period of time, administration is aware of the location of all students and staff during any of our emergency protocols. We practice this during regular drills. Staff members can also initiate an emergency through this app if they notice something, and it will alert the entire campus as well as district personnel.
In addition, the district has recently equipped all staff members with an emergency button that is worn with our lanyards. Staff can push the button 3 times to call for leadership team assistance, and pushing the button 7 or more times initiates a campus lockdown. This notifies the entire campus as well as district personnel and emergency services.
We take safety very seriously, and we want you to understand the systems we have in place to practice and ensure that everyone knows what to do in an emergency. I consider your child's safety to be my #1 priority.
I would ask that when you receive notice of a drill or actual emergency that you resist the urge to immediately call or come up to campus. I will be in direct communication with district and emergency officials, and it is critical that phone lines are kept clear. Coming on campus can create a more dangerous situation. We will communicate as much as we can as soon as we can, but we have to prioritize securing the campus and ensuring the safety of everyone over outside communication.

Our Innovative Day schedule will be shared weekly. Please know that the lunch schedule will change on your child's grade level innovative days. As the popularity of e-bikes and other motorized vehicles continues to grow, Lamar CISD is reminding families of the transportation expectations designed to keep students, staff, and visitors safe on our campuses. Students who transport themselves to and from school must use authorized methods of transportation. E-bikes are permitted on campus when operated in accordance with Texas law. To be considered a legal e-bike, the bicycle must have functional pedals and may not exceed the speed limits established by state regulations (20 to 28 mph, depending on the class of e-bike). Additionally, operators of Class 3 e-bikes, which can travel up to 28 mph and are equipped with a speedometer, must be at least 15 years of age. Many vehicles marketed as "e-bikes" do not meet the legal definition of an e-bike under Texas law and cannot be operated on public roadways or school property. We encourage families to verify that any motorized bicycle their student rides complies with state law before bringing it to campus. The following vehicles are prohibited because they do not meet the legal definition of an e-bike or are otherwise not authorized for student use on school property: - ATVs (All-Terrain Vehicles)
- OHVs (Off-Highway Vehicles)
- Electric motorcycles
- Electric mini-bikes
- Pocket bikes
- Similar high-powered motorized devices
Students must also comply with all applicable traffic laws while on school grounds, including requirements related to helmets, licensing, permits, registration, and insurance. If a prohibited motorized vehicle is brought onto campus, school police will notify campus administration and contact the student's parent or guardian to arrange for the vehicle to be picked up. Our goal is not to inconvenience families. It is to ensure that every student arrives at school safely while complying with Texas law. We appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a safe learning environment for everyone. If you have questions regarding whether a vehicle is permitted on campus, please contact the school administration before sending it with your child. |
